LOS ANGELES, CALIF.-- Tuesday's qualifying action for the Duke women's tennis team didn't go the way they wanted it to as the Blue Devils lost its lone doubles match and fell in the first round of two singles matches at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Riviera All-American on the campus of UCLA in Los Angeles, Calif.
Duke's tandem of Jackie Carleton and Katie Blaszak lost a tough match against 16th-ranked Lindsay Martin and Katie McGaffigan of Wisconsin, 9-8.
In singles action, both of Duke's players fell in the first round of the qualifying action as sophomore Jennifer Zika fell to 53rd-ranked Maria Ivanov of Tulane, 6-3, 6-4, and freshman Clelia Deltour lost 6-2, 6-2 to 35th-ranked Emma Murphy of San Diego. In the consolation bracket, Zika knocked off 80th-ranked Lauren Pearl of San Diego, while Deltour was defeated by Roberta Fessenko of Sacramento State, 6-2, 6-4. Zika will next battle 55th-ranked Kelly Anderson of Georgia Tech on Wednesday.
Carleton, ranked 19th in the preseason rankings, will still play in the singles main draw beginning Oct. 7.
