PACIFIC PALISADES, CALIF.-- The main draw of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA)/Riviera All-American got under way on Thursday with Duke's junior transfer Jackie Carleton taking on 26th-ranked Theresa Logar from Stanford at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
Carleton, a transfer from UCLA and native of Jenkintown, Pa., is currently ranked 19th in the nation, but lost a 6-4, 6-4 decision to Logar. Despite the loss, Carleton will continue playing in the main draw consolation bracket on Friday.
Duke's 68th-ranked sophomore Jennifer Zika continued her run in the singles qualifying consolation bracket as she knocked off 55th-ranked Kelly Anderson, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, in the second round. Then, Zika defeated 79th-ranked Meg Racette of Iowa, 6-4,6-4, in the third round before falling 6-3, 6-1 to Kristi Miller of Georgia Tech in the final four.
