DURHAM, N.C.-- The Duke women's tennis team will conclude the fall season this weekend with the first annual Kitty Harrison Invitational on Friday through Sunday in Chapel Hill, N.C., held at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center and hosted by the University of North Carolina.
The Invitational will feature eight of the top women's teams in the nation-- North Carolina, Duke, Miami, Minnesota, Wake Forest, Washington State, Winthrop and Virginia Tech. It will be a hidden-dual format with each match being dual between two teams, competing either in singles or doubles. However, no team scores will be kept. Instead, all results will be kept per individual and will contribute to the players' Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings for the 2004-05 season.
The tournament is in honor of Kitty Harrison, a former head coach of North Carolina's women's tennis team. Harrison coached from 1977 to her retirement in 1998.
On Friday, Duke will face Miami at 9:00 a.m., Washington State at 11:00 a.m., and Minnesota at 3:00 p.m., in singles with all matches played inside. In doubles, Duke will go up against Wake Forest at 5:00 p.m. Then, on Saturday the Blue Devils will go up against Miami at 9:00 a.m. (outdoors) and Winthrop at 10:30 a.m. (indoors) in doubles.
Duke will conclude the weekend on Sunday with a 9:00 a.m. doubles match with Virginia Tech and a 12:30 singles match with Wake Forest, both outdoors.
