CHAPEL HILL, N.C.--The Duke women's tennis team swept both Wake Forest and Virginia Tech on Sunday to conclude the 2004 Kitty Harrison Invitational at the Kone-Kenfield Tennis Center in Chapel Hill, N.C.
The Blue Devils opened the morning with four doubles matches against Virginia Tech and finished with four victories. The Duke duo of Jackie Carleton and Tory Zawacki notched an 8-3 win over Felice Lam and J.J. Larson; Katie Blaszak and Kristin Cargill defeated Ashley James and Anat Elazari, 8-5; Jennifer Zika and Clelia Deltour posted an 8-3 victory over Kate Harrington and Jessica Long, 8-3; while Saras Arasu and Parker Goyer knocked off Meredith Holmes and Bethan James, 8-1.
Then, in the afternoon the Blue Devils went up against ACC foe Wake Forest and cruised to six singles victories. Carleton started things off with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Ashlee Davis followed by Blaszak's 7-5, 6-2 win over Katie Martzolf. Cargill collected a 6-2, 6-2 win over Danielle Schwartz, Deltour won 6-1, 6-1 against Jenna Loeb, while Zawacki downed Alisha Talbot, 6-1, 6-1.
The tournament this weekend concluded the fall season for Duke and the Blue Devils will next open the spring dual match campaign on January 23, 2005 against Tennessee in Durham, N.C.
