DURHAM, N.C. - Duke won its 20th straight home match on Thursday as the 10th-ranked Blue Devils cruised to a 6-1 victory over Old Dominion (3-4) in women's tennis action at the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center in Durham, N.C.
The Blue Devils (5-1) jumped out to a 1-0 advantage after taking all three doubles matches. The tandem of Amanda Johnson and Julia Smith downed ODU's Nataly Cahana and Kerstin Endlich, 9-7, at the first slot. At the second position, Duke's Tory Zawacki and Jennifer Zika battled back from being down 3-0 early to win 8-5 over Larissa Santos and Fernanda Luiz and Kristin Cargill and Saras Arasu won 8-1 over Old Dominion's Maria Martinez and Coralie Herrmann.
Duke continued its dominance in singles action winning five of six matches with the lone loss coming at No. 1 as 33rd-ranked Nataly Cahana of Old Dominion defeated fifth-ranked Johnson, 6-2, 7-6.
Other victories for Duke included 64th-ranked Zika, 89th-ranked Zawacki, 95th-ranked Smith, 91st-ranked Arasu and Cargill. The Blue Devils have won 34 out of the last 35 matches played in Durham and will next host seventh-ranked Northwestern on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
