WILLIAMSBURG, VA.--Two Duke University transfers, Lauren Archer and Jackie Carleton, each led the Blue Devils on Sunday in the William & Mary Invitational in Williamsburg, Va., picking up singles titles.
Archer, a transfer from Rice, won the Flight C singles title with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Duke teammate Parker Goyer, while Carleton, a transfer from UCLA, defeated Ashley Kroh of Marshall, 6-3, 6-2, to win the Flight A singles consolation title.
In other singles action, Duke senior Saras Arasu fell in the Flight B singles title match, 6-2, 4-6, 6-7, to 82nd-ranked Lena Sherbakov of William & Mary. Freshman Clelia Deltour picked up a 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 victory over Kristen James of Virginia in a Flight B singles consolation match, Tory Zawacki defeated Douglas Wink of Virginia, 6-4, 6-4 and Jennifer Zika lost to 114th-ranked Nida Waseem of Boston College.
Duke tandem Kristin Cargill and Zawacki picked up the Flight A doubles consolation title with an 8-3 win over Kroh/Schwartz of Marshall, while Arasu and Zika defeated Szegedi/Waseem of Boston College, 8-6, in another doubles consolation match.
The Blue Devil duo of Deltour and Goyer also lost in the Flight B doubles title match, 8-5, to Del Priore/Pereira of Virginia.
Duke will next travel to Pacific Palisades, Calif., from Oct. 2-10 to participate in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Riviera All-American.
