Duke Upends FSU, 4-3, In Women's Tennis Action

DURHAM, N.C.-The 10th-ranked Duke women's tennis team improved to 12-5 overall and 3-1 in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) on Sunday as the Blue Devils defeated 32nd-ranked Florida State, 4-3, in the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center. The Seminoles lost their second ACC match of the weekend, falling to 9-8 on the season, 4-4 in the ACC.
After losing all three doubles matches, Duke needed four of the six singles matches to win.
Duke quickly won three singles matches at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 2 as Clelia Deltour, Kristin Cargill and Jackie Carleton, each won, respectively. Deltour collected a 6-0, 6-2 win over Tapiwa Marobela, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4, Cargill downed Amberly Tantee, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 5 and Carleton knocked off Roxanne Clarke, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 2.
After Duke lost the next two singles matches, it came down to Saras Arasu at the third position. After losing the first set 6-4 to Lindsay Deason of Florida State, Arasu won the second set 6-2. Arasu and Deason battled to the end in a tight match, and Arasu came out on top 6-4 in the third set, giving Duke the, 4-3, victory.
Duke also fell at the top slot as 39th-ranked Katie Blaszak lost to Florida State's 19th-ranked Mihaela Moldovan, 7-5, 6-2. Sophomore Tory Zawacki also lost 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 to Natalie Tirapelli at the sixth position.
The Blue Devils will next travel to Wake Forest on April 6 at 4:00 p.m.
