Mang Enters Saturday Play Undefeated At William & Mary Invitational

Freshman Melissa Mang won two singles matches on the first day of the William & Mary Women's Tennis Invitational Friday to advance to the semifinals of Flight B, held Saturday at 1 p.m.

Mang, the No. 3 seed in Flight B, defeated Brown's Amanda Saiontz and Boston College's Dasha Cherkosov in her first collegiate competition to move on to the next round, where she will play Virginia Tech's Inga Beerman.

Mang was one of four Blue Devils who began their 2005 season in the tournament Friday. Junior Kristin Cargill also advanced to Saturday play, answering a loss to North Carolina's 108^th-ranked Jenna Long in Flight A by defeating 96^th-ranked Olga Borisova of Virginia Commonwealth. Cargill will face William & Mary's Megan Muth at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Junior Tory Zawacki played in Flight A of the singles competition, falling to Yulia Rivelis of Pennsylvania, the 112^th-ranked singles player in the NCAA, and Pamela Duran of Richmond. Freshman Jessi Robinson had a bye in the first round of the Flight B competition and defaulted in the second. She will compete in a consolation bracket against Richmond's Beatrice Grasu at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

Mang and Robinson teamed up in the doubles competition, falling in the 8 a.m. match of Flight A to Rachel Del Priore and Douglas Wink of Virginia but advancing on a bye to the next round on Saturday. The two will play at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

Cargill and Zawacki fell to Richmond's Hubbard and Wolfgram 9-7 but will pair up again Saturday at 8 a.m. to take on Amanda Rales and Shannon Stough of Virginia.
