DURHAM, N.C. - The 25th-ranked Duke duo of senior Daniela Bercek and freshman Elizabeth Plotkin will begin play at the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships on Thursday in Columbus, Ohio. The two will meet Celia Durkin and Jessica Nguyen of Stanford in first round action.
Bercek and Plotkin were selected to the championship field on Nov. 25 as a result of their semifinal finish at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships earlier this month. After upsetting No. 1-ranked Jenna Long and Sara Anundsen of North Carolina to advance to the semifinals of the All-American Championships, the two fell to fourth-ranked Roxanne Clarke and Kady Pooler of Arizona State in a semifinal matchup.
Bercek and Plotkin entered the All-American Championships in the qualifying round, and defeated five nationally ranked teams en route to the semifinals of the prestigious tournament. The two have won five of their last six matches while facing only ranked opponents, and are 5-2 this fall.
ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships doubles play is set to begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 2 and will run through Sunday, Nov. 5. The event is being hosted by The Ohio State University, with all matches to be played at The Racquet Club Of Columbus.
