DURHAM, N.C. - Junior midfielder Michael Videira was placed on ESPN The Magazine's Academic All-America Third Team for his success on the playing field and in the classroom this year. Requirements for the honors are a 3.2 GPA and excellence on the soccer playing field. Videira is the first Duke player since Jordan Cila in 2003 to be bestowed with this honor.
Videira, a native of Milford, Mass., has been at the center of Duke's success all season long. He has tallied eight goals and six assists, and has started all 19 games he has been able to play in. Videira was named the ACC Tournament's Most Valuable Player for his efforts in Duke's championship run, and was honored by being placed on the All-ACC First Team for the regular season. It is the third year in as many played for Videira that he was named to an All-ACC team. Videira was named to both Top Drawer Soccer's and College Soccer News' National Teams of the Year. He was also listed among 15 players named as a semifinalist for the Hermann Trophy, which is the award given to the best college soccer player each year. That trophy will be awarded on Dec. 2. All of this has happened despite Videira missing three games due to injury late in the regular season.

If Duke wins, they would advance to the national semifinals against either Notre Dame or Virginia. The 2006 NCAA Men's Soccer College Cup will be held in St. Louis, Mo., on Dec. 1 and 3.
