Durham, N.C. - Former Duke standout and current interim head coach Kevin Cassese tallied three goals to help the U.S. Men's National Team defeat the Syracuse All-Stars 15-6 in front of a crowd of 3,500 at Coyne Field on the Syracuse University campus on Monday.
Cassese, a three time All-America at Duke from 2000-03, scored two of his team-high three goals during a 5-0 stretch at the end of the first period and the start of the second. Roy Colsey also tallied three goals in the contest for Team USA, including two during the 5-0 run that extended the lead from 3-2 to 8-2. Cassese also recorded one ground ball and one caused turnover and won three of his six faceoffs. Matt Danowski, the 2005 ACC Player of the Year, who will be a senior on Duke's 2007 squad, is one of two alternates on the U.S. team. He took three shots in the game and recorded one ground ball.
The Syracuse All-Stars cut the lead to 9-5 in the third period but Scott Urick scored twice to key another 5-0 run and put the game out of reach.
