DURHAM, N.C. ? Rachael Moss had 13 kills and 14 digs to lead the Duke volleyball team in a 3-0 (30-20, 30-22, 30-20) sweep of the Miami Hurricanes 3-0 Friday night at Cameron Indoor Stadium. With the win, Duke improves to 19-4 overall and 14-1 in the ACC while the Hurricanes fall to 10-14 and 4-11, respectively.
Carrie DeMange added 12 kills for Duke and finished with nine digs and five blocks defensively. Sue Carls hit an impressive .600 with nine kills and zero attack errors. Ali Hausfeld kept on her average with 42 assists with six Blue Devils recording kills and Duke hitting .264 in the match.
Duke's 12 team blocks helped hold Miami to a .089 hitting percentage. Jourdan Norman assisted on six of Duke's blocks. Duke also served tough against Miami with 10 service aces with four players recording a pair of aces.
Duke started out hot in both the first and second game, opening the match with a 4-0 lead and holding a 5-1 lead in the second game. More impressively, the Blue Devils finished strong in the final two games, scoring five of the last six points in each game to close out the Hurricanes.
Next up for Duke is Florida State, who will visit Cameron Saturday night at approximately 8 p.m. The men's basketball team is in action at 5 p.m. and the volleyball match will begin approximately 45 minutes following the game but not before 8 p.m. With Virginia's 3-0 sweep of Clemson Friday, Duke is now tied for first place in the conference with a 14-1 record. Next weekend, Duke travels to both Georgia Tech and Clemson.
