WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.?The Duke University women's tennis team opened play this afternoon with doubles at the annual Wilson/ITA Regional Championships hosted by Wake Forest University. The Blue Devils had one doubles pair in action and will kick off the singles draw tomorrow.
The duo of Jessi Robinson and Ellah Nze captured the opening match, 8-0 over Wofford's Cayley Wetzig and Sonia Anad. Robinson and Nze will take on Maria Sorbello and Rosalia Alda of Tennessee in the round of 32 on Friday. It was just the third time the two have played together during their careers at Duke.
Earning a bye as the No. 5 seed, Amanda Granson and Reka Zsilinszka will match up against Ana Spivakovsky and Yudeshree Pillay of UNC Charlotte.
Five Blue Devils will line up for the singles draw, which starts tomorrow. Nze is the top seed at No. 3, while Zsilinszka is fourth, and Granson is ninth. Robinson and Melissa Mang round out the singles lineup for Duke at the five-day event.
