GREENSBORO, N.C. ? The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) office released the 2008 All-ACC first, second, third and All-Freshman teams on Tuesday with five Blue Devils earning accolades. Both juniors KayAnne Gummersall and Elisabeth Redmond were selected to the first team, senior Lorraine Quinn earned second team honors and freshmen Cody Newman and Ashley Rape were named to the All-Freshman team by a vote of the league head coaches.
Gummersall and Redmond have led Duke's powerful scoring attack, which has produced 45 goals on the season. The 45 goals is tied for the seventh most in school history. The tandem of Gummersall and Redmond are the most prolific scoring duo in single season school history with 21 goals between them in 2008.

In ACC action, Gummersall has registered five of her 11 goals to go along with one assist. Her 25 points ranks fifth in the ACC, while her 11 goals is tied for fourth. The 5-8 forward has collected three multi-goal games on the season, including recent contests versus league foes Clemson and Florida State.
Redmond, who is from Morristown, N.J., has posted 10 goals, four assists and 24 points on the year. Her five game-winning goals is a team-best and is tied for second in the ACC. A 5-6 midfielder, Redmond has notched four multi-goal contests, including two netters versus 15th-ranked Wake Forest. In the ACC stats, Redmond is tied for fifth in points per game (1.33) and tied for sixth in goals (10). Redmond earned second team All-ACC honors last season.
Earning All-ACC honors for the second straight year, Quinn has produced another solid season in the midfield for the Blue Devils. Quinn, a native of Farmingdale, N.Y., has started all 19 matches, while totaling five goals, four assists and 14 points. Earlier this season, Quinn collected the first hat trick of her career with three goals versus Georgia in the Duke/adidas Classic. She also fired a goal against the current top-ranked Notre Dame squad earlier in the season.
Newman and Rape each came into the 2008 season straight out of high school and made a huge impact as the duo combined to start 27 matches, register seven goals and four assists. Newman, who is from Bellerose, N.Y., has started 12 of 19 contests at the forward slot. She has totaled four goals, three assists and 11 points.
One of the top defenders in the league in her first year at Duke, Rape started the first 15 matches before suffering a torn ACL in practice prior to the Miami contest. Rape, who is from Dallas, Texas, had scored three goals and notched one assist in those matches. On the defensive end, Rape guided the Blue Devils to eight shutouts in 15 matches prior to her injury.
