HONOLULU, HAWAII ? The 13th-ranked Duke women's tennis team picked up its third consecutive shutout victory on Wednesday with a 7-0 triumph over Hawaii at the UH Tennis Complex in Honolulu, Hawaii.
With the win, the Blue Devils improve to 8-1 (2-0 ACC) on the year while the Rainbow Wahine fall to 0-10.
Duke swept the doubles point to go ahead 1-0, as the third-ranked duo of junior Melissa Mang and sophomore Amanda Granson defeated Sophie Kobuch and Chloe Bihag, 8-5, at the top position, freshmen Ellah Nze and Reka Zslinszka combined for an 8-3 win over Jennifer Goldman and Natasha Zorec at No. 2, and junior Jessi Robinson and senior Tory Zawacki teamed up for a victory over Julia Sandborn and Brittany Beswick (8-1) at the No. 3 spot.
Singles action saw Duke take all six matches to accout for the final 7-0 score, as two Blue Devils secured 6-0, 6-0 wins and just one match went to three sets.
At the top position, 81st-ranked Kobuch gave sophomore Tara Iyer a tough match taking her to three sets, but Iyer eventually came away with the 6-1, 2-6, 1-0(4) win.
Action at No. 2 saw 14th-ranked Nze get past Bihag, 6-0, 6-2, while 16th-ranked Zslinszka posted a 6-0, 6-0 triumph over Sandborn at the No. 3 position. At No. 4, Mang defeatead Zorec, 6-2, 6-1, while Granson recorded a 6-0, 6-0 win over Marie Tanaka at the No. 5 slot.
Zawacki improved to 2-0 in dual matches on the season with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph over Goldman at No. 6.
Duke remains in Honolulu for a match versus No. 20 Tennessee on Saturday, March 15, as the squads are set to square off at 10 a.m. PT. The Blue Devils will then return home for three straight matches, facing a trio of ACC foes in five days.
