WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.-The Duke University women's tennis team turned in an outstanding first day of competition at the ITA Carolina Championship hosted by Wake Forest University. All five Blue Devils advanced in singles play, while both doubles tandems moved into the quarterfinal round.
Duke opened the day with four overall wins in doubles play to earn spots in the quarterfinal round. Receiving a bye in the opening round, fourth-seeded Amanda Granson and Ellah Nze cruised to a pair of 8-1 wins to earn a spot in the quarterfinal round. The duo defeated NC State's Diana Mortlock and Tana Illova in the opening match and dispatched Jennifer Stone and Jelena Durisic of North Carolina in the round of 16.
