DURHAM, N.C.-The Duke University women's tennis team will close out the fall portion of its 2009-10 schedule this weekend in a pair of events. Sophomore Reka Zsilinszka will participate in the ITA National Indoor Championship, while the remaining four players will play in the Kitty Harrison Invitational at North Carolina.
Zsilinszka earned an at-large bid to the ITA National Indoor Championship after advancing to the ITA Carolina Regional Championship title match. She will take on fourth-seeded Jana Juricova of California in her first match on Nov. 5 at 11:30 a.m. The tournament will be hosted by Yale University and kicks off on November 5 at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center in New Haven, Conn.
The ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Tennis Championships are the second of three national tournaments for singles and doubles during the collegiate tennis season. The tournament features a 32-player field singles field and a 16-team doubles field for men and women.
Monica Gorny, Amanda Granson, Ellah Nze and Elizabeth Plotkin will compete in Chapel Hill in the annual Kitty Harrison Invite. All are coming off strong performances at the regional championship at Wake Forest.
Gorny is 7-3 overall on the season and is 1-0 against nationally-ranked opponents after defeating the Tar Heel's Sophie Grabinski in the opening round of the regional championship. Granson, ranked 57th nationally, heads into the weekend also sporting a 7-3 overall mark and a 3-2 record against ranked foes. She advanced to the round of 16 at the ITA Carolina Championship before falling to the eventual champion.
Rounding out the lineup will be Nze and Plotkin. The 19th-ranked Nze is 5-3 overall and went 2-1 in the last tournament to earn a spot in the round of 16. Plotkin continues to make strides and is 4-3 overall on the year.
