DURHAM, N.C. – Duke University defensive standouts Maddy Haller and Ashley Rape have been selected to the College Sports Information Director's of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District III for their efforts on the field and in the classroom.
Haller was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District III second team, after totaling a 3.50 grade-point average (GPA), while Rape was selected to the third team with a 3.44 GPA.
A product of South Salem, N.Y., Haller has played in 18 matches, while starting 16 for the Blue Devils on the defensive end. Haller has helped guide Duke to a total of nine shutouts as a team. She registered the game-winning goal against Yale earlier this season, which was her first career tally. The sophomore has yet to declare a major and was a 2010 ACC Honor Roll selection.
Rape, a 2010 tri-captain as a redshirt sophomore, has anchored the defensive unit starting 18 of her 19 matches played on the year. A native of Dallas, Texas, Rape is coming off missing the 2009 season with a knee injury and has come back strong for the Blue Devils in 2010. She has posted one assist against Clemson this year, while helping guide Duke to nine shutouts.
Duke (10-7-3) fell in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals, 1-0, to third-ranked Maryland on Wednesday and will next await the NCAA Tournament selection show on Monday at 4:30 p.m., which will be aired live on ESPNU.
