Duke improved to 14-2 overall on the year and 2-0 against conference foes. Maryland falls to 3-6 overall and 0-4 in the ACC.
"We love playing here because so many fans come out," Nze said. "The wrestling [team] comes out and they're amazing and 'crazy towel guy'. It's great. Anytime you can have people behind us and not cheering against us is a great advantage. It gives us energy across all six courts."
The Blue Devils came out fast, taking a lead in all three doubles matches. Duke's top doubles tandem of Amanda Granson and Ellah Nze were the first off the court with an 8-3 triumph. The new pair of Reka Zsilinszka and Mary Clayton clinched the point for Duke, beating the Terrapins 8-4 in the No. 3 spot.
Completing the doubles sweep at No. 2 were Monica Gorny and Jessica Stiles with an 8-6 victory.
"We've lost the past few doubles points, so it was important for us to come out strong today," Nze said. "Against a team like Maryland you don't know how they are. You want to get on them early and not give them a chance to breathe."
Singles play was just as smooth for the Blue Devils as they opened up big leads across all six courts. Clayton had the shortest day on court five, defeating Burce Kurkan 6-0, 6-0 for her 13th win of the year.
Nze was equally efficient in the No. 1 slot. Ranked 36th in the nation, Nze dropped Maggie McKeever 6-2, 6-2 for her 20th win in the 2009-10 season.
Granson clinched the match and moved one step closer to becoming the 19th player in Duke women's tennis history to win 100 singles matches by capturing her 99th victory with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 3. Granson will follow Zsilinszka, who registered her 100th win a week ago, into the records book.
Rounding out singles play were Gorny at No. 4, Zsilinszka in the second spot and Stiles on court six. Gorny won 6-1, 6-2, while Zsilinszka came away with a 6-0, 6-1 victory. The rookie Stiles remained unbeaten in singles play in a 6-1, 6-4 win.
The Blue Devils host Boston College next on March 28 at 12 p.m., at Ambler Tennis Stadium.
