"It feels incredible [to reach 100 wins," Granson said. "But it was never something that I was gunning for, it just kind of fell into place. I've been working really hard for the team and that's been the goal the entire time and this is just icing on the cake."
The eighth-ranked Blue Devils improve to 15-2 overall and 3-0 in conference play. Duke continues its stellar unbeaten streak at home, pushing the total to 29 matches. Boston College falls to 5-10 overall after playing with just five players this afternoon.
"Our mentality was to treat this like any other match," Granson said. "We wanted to stay focused and not give up free points and try new things also. It's a great opportunity to work on our games and get better."
In doubles action, the duo of sophomore Monica Gorny and freshman Mary Clayton made quick work of its Eagle opponents on court two with an 8-0 victory in less than 30 minutes. At No. 1, seniors Elizabeth Plotkin and junior Reka Zsilinszka battled back from a 3-0 deficit to earn an 8-5 win.
Sporting a 2-0 advantage due to Boston College's short-handed squad, the Blue Devils continued to roll in singles action. Playing in the top singles spot, Plotkin needed less than hour to dispatch Alex Kelleher 6-0, 6-1 to give Duke the 3-0 overall lead. The win was Plotkin's 15th dual match win of the year as she moves to 21-5 in the 2009-10 season.
Clinching the match for Duke was Zsilinszka at No. 2. The native of Fayetteville, N.C., dropped Katarina Gajic 6-1, 6-0. In the two ACC contests this weekend, Zsilinszka lost just two games. Freshman Jessica Stiles also made quick work of her opponent, winning 6-0, 6-1 to remain unbeaten in singles action this season.
Meanwhile on court three, Granson was in the middle of putting herself in the Duke records book as she garnered her 100th career singles victory with a hard-fought 6-4, 6-3 win. She is now 100-43 in singles action for her career and 24-6 this season. She is the 19th player in program history to reach the century mark and the second Blue Devil this season to do so after Zsilinszka achieved the mark against William & Mary.
Rounding out singles play was Clayton in the No. 4 slot with a 7-6, 6-3 win over Ina Kauppila. Clayton is now 14-3 overall this season and 2-0 at No. 4.
Duke returns to action on April 2 and April 3 at Virginia Tech and Virginia, respectively. Matches are scheduled to kick off at 2 p.m., on April 2 and 1 p.m., on April 3.
"We have a solid five days of practice before we play Virginia Tech and Virginia," Granson said. "Those will be great matches. They both have good programs so it's just building off of each match and gaining momentum."
