DURHAM, N.C. – Duke freshman Beatrice Capra has been selected to represent the United States in the sixth annual Master'U BNP Paribas, as it was announced Thursday by the United States Tennis Association (USTA). The event is an international collegiate team competition which will be held Dec. 8-11 in Rouen, France. The event features eight teams consisting of college and university players from around the world.
Along with Capra, the University of Florida's Lauren Embree and Arizona State's Jacqueline Cako will represent the women's side for the U.S. The team will be coached by Mark Guilbeau, who is currently the head coach of the women's team at Virginia. Roster spots for the team were selected by a committee of USTA Player Development and coaches and staff from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
In 2009, the U.S. defeated France to win the title, but lost to the French in the 2010 title match. This year marks the fourth straight year the U.S. will be competing in the event, which also includes teams from Belgium, China, Germany, Great Britain, Ireland and Spain.
Capra, an Ellicott City, Md. native, recently completed her first fall season at Duke. The newcomer complied a 6-2 overall singles record, along with a 10-3 doubles record. Ranked the No. 1 freshman by the ITA, Capra defeated the 7th, 16th, 24th, 29th and 89th ranked players, as well as the No. 2-ranked freshman.
