CARY, N.C. – No. 18 Florida State edged No. 3 Duke by a score of 4-3 on Saturday to advance to the finals in the ACC Tournament.
The Blue Devils dropped the doubles point to the Seminoles and battled back to take the lead in singles action after back-to-back wins by Rachel Kahan and Mary Clayton as four matches remained.
Florida State tied the match at 2-2 with a win on court four as Elizabeth Plotkin fell to Ruth Seaborne in three sets, while Ellah Nze came through on court two to give Duke a 3-2 lead with two matches remaining.
The final two matches of the day came down to third sets. On court one, Nadine Fahoum fought back from a 4-1 deficit in the third set to send the match into a tiebreaker. Kate Rybakova held off Fahoum's charge in the tiebreaker to tie the match at 3-3 with the deciding match coming down to Reka Zsilinszka once again for the Blue Devils.
After Zsliniszka dropped the first set to Noemie Scharle, Zsilinszka tied the match at one set apiece. Scharle eventually held off Zsilinszka in the third set that earned the Seminoles a berth in the ACC Tournament finals with a 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 win.
Up next, the Blue Devils will await seeding in the NCAA tournament, which will be announced live on Tuesday, May 3, at 5 p.m. on NCAA.com. The 2011 NCAA Tournament is slated to start on May 13 at on campus sites.
