Mulholland and Turewicz Advance at SDSU Fall Classic

SAN DIEGO - Freshmen Monica Turewicz and Annie Mulholland swept the three total matches in which they played on Friday at the San Diego State University Fall Classic.

In singles action, Turewicz defeated Utah's Natasha Smith in 6-0, 6-2 in the blue flight, while Mulholland downed another Utah Ute, Danielle Flores, 6-0, 6-3 in the silver flight to advance to the semifinals.

The two newcomers also teamed up in doubles play to upend the University of San Diego's Anna Depenau and Maja Sujica by an 8-6 margin, advancing to the semifinals of the white flight.

The SDSU Fall Classic will resume Saturday morning, where Turewicz and Mulholland will begin semifinal action in singles and doubles play. All three matches in which the two will compete are against players representing tournament host San Diego State. Turewicz will face off against Julia Wais, while Mulholland will take on Roxanne Ellison. In doubles, the two will battle sisters Roxanne and Sierra Ellison for a spot in Sunday's championship match. All matches will be played in the Aztec Tennis Center.
