CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Senior Mary Clayton and junior Marianne Jodoin advanced to the championship match of their respective brackets on Saturday at the Kitty Harrison Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C. The Blue Devils now own an 8-1 singles record at the Kitty Harrison Invitational, as well as a 2-1 slate in doubles action.
In the semifinal of the white draw, No. 27 Jodoin cruised past Anik Cepeda of William & Mary, 6-2, 6-0 to advance to the championship match where she is slated to face Ellie Ball of Marshall on Sunday. Jodoin, a native of Varennes, Quebec, owns a 9-6 record this fall in singles play.
In the blue draw, No. 44 Clayton topped Tessa Lyons of North Carolina, 7-5, 6-1 in the semifinal match. On Sunday, Clayton will face Lauren McHale of North Carolina in the championship match of the blue bracket. Clayton has tallied a 10-5 record this fall.
Annie Mulholland, who is also in the blue draw, came out strong in the first set of her semifinal match, but eventually fell to McHale, 5-7, 6-0, 6-1 on Saturday. Mulholland will play Lyons on Sunday in the third place match.
In doubles action, the duo of Clayton and Mulholland fell to Dominik Zapranzna and Maria Voscekova of Marshall, 8-4 before topping Maria Fuscillo and Hana Tomljanovic of Virginia, 8-4 to earn third place in the blue draw.
