PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – Senior Ester Goldfeld opened singles competition at the 2014 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships Thursday afternoon in Pacific Palisades, Calif., falling in the first round of the main draw to Breaunna Addison of Texas.
The first-round contest pitted Goldfeld, ranked 12th by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) in the organization's preseason poll, against the 13th ranked Addison. Goldfeld, a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., put in a valiant effort, but ultimately dropped the match, 6-7 (7), 6-3, 6-1. With the loss, Goldfeld now owns a 2-3 overall record this season.
Goldfeld is next scheduled to begin play in the consolation bracket of the main draw, where she will face Florida's 14th-ranked Brianna Morgan Friday afternoon.
Four members of the Duke women's tennis team also return to competition tomorrow, traveling to the Princeton Invitational in Princeton, N.J., scheduled for Friday, Oct. 3, through Sunday, Oct. 5.
