A Look at Boston College...
Boston College enters Sunday with a 10-7 overall and 3-5 league mark. The Eagles have won two out of the last three contests, but are coming off a 4-3 loss at Wake Forest Thursday night. Hayley Dowd has led Boston College on the season with 14 goals and three assists for 31 points. She has notched five game-winning goals.
The Series with Boston College... Duke and Boston College will meet for the 12th time in school history with the Blue Devils holding a 5-4-2 edge in the series. In matches played in Durham, N.C., Duke has totaled a 3-0-1 mark with the last meeting being a high-scoring affair, 4-2 in favor of the Blue Devils on Oct. 7, 2012. In four career meetings in Durham, Boston College has scored only two goals. Duke has won three out of the last four matches with the Eagles.
Church Nearing Milestone.. With the next victory, Duke head coach
Robbie Church will post his 350th overall win during his 29 years as a men's and women's head coach. His record currently stands 349-218-51, including a 166-104-37 mark with the Blue Devils.
Tough Stretch for Scoring... For the first time this season, Duke was held scoreless in three straight matches against Virginia Tech, Louisville and Clemson. In fact, the Blue Devils scored only one goal over the previous four matches prior to Wake Forest.
The Blue Devils have scored only four goals in the last seven games, but sophomore
Toni Payne netted her team-best sixth tally in the first half against Virginia to get Duke on the board.
In the last nine contests, Duke has scored multiple goals only twice against Pittsburgh and WFU.
Scoring Woes.. The Blue Devils have scored only 20 goals this season through 16 matches. The last time Duke didn't score 30 or more goals was in 2001 (26). The fewest goals scored in a season was 22 in 1998.
Key Stretch for Duke.. Duke needed to finish strong in 2013 to make a run in the NCAA Tournament and the Blue Devils will need to do so again in 2014 with a 7-8-1 overall mark. Duke has two matches remaining, including one at home, and needs to have a .500 record or above to have a chance to make the NCAA Tournament. The Blue Devils have advanced to 11 straight NCAA Tournaments.
Proctor Gets Start in Goal...
Freshman
EJ Proctor was awarded with her first collegiate start against fourth-ranked Virginia Thursday. She netted four first half saves as Duke led 1-0 at the break, but allowed three second half goals as the Blue Devils dropped a 3-1 decision.
The Injury Report... After starting against Wake Forest and tallying her first assist of the season, senior
Katie Trees missed the UNC and Virginia games with a knee injury.
Sophomore
Rebecca Quinn has missed the last four matches with injuries.
Lineup Gets Shaken Up.. After starting the same lineup for most of the season, head coach
Robbie Church has shaken things up the last number of matches. He said he wanted to get “Energy Players” inserted in the lineup and he did that inserting
Katie Trees and
Danielle Duhl versus WFU.
The plan worked as Duke went on to take down Wake Forest, 2-1.
Freshman
EJ Proctor was then inserted into the starting lineup against Virginia.
Young Defense... The Blue Devils feature a very young defense with junior
Kara Wilson, sophomore
Lizzy Raben, freshman
Morgan Reid and freshman
Schuyler DeBree. Sophomore
Christina Gibbons will also see action in the back as well.
As a sophomore, Raben is the veteran member of the defensive unit as Wilson was moved to the back this season.
Back in Durham... The Blue Devils are closing out a stretch where they are playing four straight home matches, after playing eight out of 13 matches on the road. Duke enters Sunday's match at home with a 27-7-7 record at Koskinen Stadium dating back to the 2011 season.
