DURHAM, N.C. – The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) released the district winners for women's soccer this week with Duke redshirt junior
Ali Kershner and sophomore
Christina Gibbons each earning honors in district three.
The Blue Devil duo will now move on to the national ballot to be in consideration for Academic All-America accolades.
Kershner, who is a native of Palo Alto, Calif., has started 16 matches in goal for the Blue Devils, while totaling a 0.92 goals-against average and four shutouts. She has led Duke to all eight victories on the year and collected 39 saves. Kershner is a three-time ACC Honor Roll selection and been named to the Dean's List at Duke on two occasions. She owns a 3.67 grade-point average with a major in Evolutionary Anthropology.
A product of Raleigh, N.C., Gibbons has started 15-of-16 matches in the midfield for the Blue Devils this season. She has tallied three goals and three assists for nine points, which ranks third on the Duke squad. Gibbons netted the game-winning goal against Pittsburgh earlier this season. She has also seen action on the defensive end as well as the midfield, following starting all 24 matches in the back as a freshman.
Gibbons was a 2014 ACC Honor Roll selection as a freshman, while being named to the Dean's list in both semesters. She owns a 3.96 grade-point average and is undecided on a major.
The Blue Devils (8-8-1) will close the regular season with a key ACC road match at nationally ranked Florida State Friday, Oct. 31 at 7:00 p.m., on ESPN3.
