Happy Holidays, from DWS!
First and foremost, I'd like to express my tremendous gratitude to everyone who helped us this season. This thank you goes not only to our devoted coaches and wonderful staff, but also to those who made it to our homes games at Koskinen and those valiant diehards that travelled made the long journeys to see us play up and down the East coast. We can't thank you enough for your support and your endless love and belief.
As 2015 quickly approaches, it's important to reflect back before moving forward. We train relentlessly for nine months out of the year for a season that spans only three. It is incredibly demanding, exciting, devastating, and rewarding all at once. You do your very best to make it last as long as you possibly can. This year, we fell short. In essence, we failed.
But, in the words of the legendary Johnny Cash, “You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don't try to forget the mistakes, but you don't dwell on it. You don't let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space.”
That's what we intend to do: to close the door on the past, dust ourselves off, and get back up. We've already started to build on our failure (I prefer momentary setback) and use it as a stepping stone. After our season came to an end, we continued to train and take our first steps towards becoming better for 2015. Honestly, this was incredibly difficult. The end to the season was heartbreaking and devastating, and trying to reset and begin training again was something that was very hard to do. But I was incredibly proud of the energy and optimism that our team brought to training, as well as a resilience and a remarkable determination to work hard and get better.
Looking forward, we still have a lot of work to do. But we have the team that's willing to do it. In the words of our very own Coach K, “our goal is to get better and closer as a team every single day.” That's what we hope for in this coming year. We realize we have so much to be thankful for, and so much to look forward to in 2015. Time to get after it!
Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year!
