DURHAM, N.C. -- Duke women's tennis head coach Jamie Ashworth announced the addition of Reka Zsilinszka as a volunteer assistant coach Wednesday, Sept. 10. Zsilinszka returns to Duke following a standout career as a member of the Duke women's tennis team from 2007 through 2011.
"We are excited to have Reka back in this position," Ashworth said. "She was a tremendous player for us here at Duke and will be an amazing asset both on the court and off. She sees the game really well and our girls will definitely improve under her tutelage."
Zsilinszka adds a wealth of experience, both as a player and a mentor, to Duke's staff, coaching both women and junior players for two years at Durham University in the United Kingdom. Prior to her time in the United Kingdom, Zsilinszka acted as the Hollow Rock Racquet and Swim Club tennis professional in 2010, while also serving as a Nike Junior Tennis Camp counselor between 2007 and 2011.
As a student-athlete at Duke, Zsilinszka saw one of the most successful playing careers in school history. In addition to recording two seasons with 40 or more singles wins and receiving two All-America selections, Zsilinszka also played an integral role in guiding Duke to its first national championship title for women's tennis. Zsilinszka posted a perfect 5-0 mark in tournament play and garnered the Most Valuable Player Award following the end of the 10-day contest. The conclusion of the 2009 season saw Zsilinszka record a career-high 41 singles victories, becoming just the second Blue Devil in Duke history to reach the 40-win plateau for two consecutive seasons. Zsilinszka also surpassed the 100-win mark, concluding her Duke career with an overall singles record of 142-33, the third most wins and the second best winning percentage in Duke history.
At the conference level, Zsilinszka also excelled, sitting atop Duke's career ACC singles wins list with 38 and earning four All-ACC honors during her time in Durham. Regionally, Zsilinszka received the 2011 Carolina Region Senior of the Year award.
In addition to assisting with the women's tennis team this season, Zsilinszka is also attending Duke University's School of Medicine.
