PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – Duke's doubles pair of senior Beatrice Capra and freshman Ellyse Hamlin continued its strong play Wednesday, advancing to the doubles main draw of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif. With two victories on the day, the tandem improved to a perfect 6-0 this season.
Capra and Hamlin once again opened the day with a victory, downing Wichita State's team of Rebecca Pedrazzi and Aleksandra Trifunovic, 8-5. The Duke pair returned to the doubles courts and defeated Fresno State's 38th-ranked duo of Maiar Sherif Ahmed and Rana Sherif Ahmed, 8-4, to secure a spot in the main draw of the doubles competition.
Hamlin was unable to maintain the momentum from her doubles play on the singles court. The Fairfield, Conn., native's five-match win streak came to a close Wednesday after she fell to top-seeded and 23rd-ranked Jasmine Lee of Mississippi State, 6-4, 6-1. With the loss, Hamlin's singles record this season moves to 6-2.
Capra, a day removed from defeating the No. 2 seed in the tournament, was also unable to earn a victory over her singles opponent, Ohio State's Francesca Di Lorenzo. The Ellicott City, Md., native dropped her contest, 6-2, 6-2, and now owns a 2-1 mark on the year.
Duke's doubles team is set to face Arkansas's 11th-ranked pair of Yuilya Lysa and Shannon Hudson at 1 p.m. (ET) Thursday.
