DURHAM, N.C. -- The Duke women's tennis team is set to open its final tournament of the fall season Friday, serving as a satellite site for the Kitty Harrison Invitational. The three-day event, split between Durham, N.C., and Chapel Hill, N.C., and played in a hidden-dual format, includes 18 teams.
In addition to Duke, 10 teams attending the invitational are scheduled to compete in Durham, including Penn State, Virginia, Texas, Michigan, LSU, VCU, Rice, South Carolina, Maryland and Elon.
The Blue Devils open Friday's competition with doubles action against Virginia at 10 a.m., before returning to the courts at 11:30 a.m. to face doubles pairs from Texas. The first day of the invitational concludes for Duke with singles play against Michigan beginning at 1 p.m.
Duke resumes action Saturday with doubles play against Penn State at 10 a.m., before closing day two of the event with singles against LSU. The singles matches against LSU are scheduled to commence at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
The Blue Devils' final match of the contest begins at 10 a.m. Sunday morning, with Duke facing South Carolina in singles action.
Duke's fall has been highlighted by its doubles play, with the Blue Devils owning a combined 20-6 mark in doubles competition. The tandem of senior Beatrice Capra and freshman Ellyse Hamlin owns a team-high nine victories, while sophomore Samantha Harris and freshman Kaitlyn McCarthy registered a perfect 3-0 mark over the fall campaign.
In singles, the Blue Devils were headlined by the play of McCarthy, who recorded a near-perfect ledger of 7-1. Hamlin also saw an impressive fall season, heading into the final contest of the 2015 calendar year with a record of 6-2.
All Duke matches are slated to be played in the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center. Admission to the event is free to the public. Free parking for spectators attending the event Friday and Sunday is available in the Blue Zone lot, with gates opening at 9 a.m. each day. Parking for Saturday's matches is available to the public along Whitford Drive and Frank Bassett Drive Saturday, free of charge, beginning at 8 a.m.
