DURHAM, N.C.—The Duke men's soccer team will enter the 12-team ACC Championship as the No. 10 overall seed and will travel to seventh-seed Notre Dame for a first-round game. The Blue Devils and Fighting Irish will kick off Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m.
Duke finished ACC play with a 2-5-1 record, amassing seven points, while Notre Dame went 3-3-2 against ACC foes for 10 points. The Blue Devils beat the Irish in a 2-1 double overtime thriller during the regular season and will meet Notre Dame for the second time in ACC Championship play. The Irish won that 2013 tournament matchup, 1-0.
The ACC Championship, in its 20th year, will be played on campus sites through the quarterfinal rounds. The semifinal and final games will be held at MUSC Health Stadium in Charleston, S.C. Duke is 19-24-4 all-time in the tournament and is 1-8-1 since 2008. The Blue Devils own three ACC Championship titles with the last coming in 2006.
Junior Brian White leads the offense with five goals and four assists for 14 points. Classmate Cameron Moseley also has five goals, while rookie Max Moser has a team-best six assists. Duke's rookie group accounts for 34 percent of the team's points this season. Robert Moewes anchors the defense with a 1.27 goals against average and a .750 save percentage.
Notre Dame (10-5-2) and ranked 12th nationally is led on offense by Jon Gallagher's 28 points. Brandon Aubrey has 17 points. The Irish, 6-1-2 at home, are coming off of a 0-0 tie with North Carolina in the regular season finale. They have allowed just 12 goals this season for a 0.67 team goals against average.
The winner advances to play at No. 2 seed Wake Forest Nov. 6 at 1 p.m.
