DURHAM, N.C. - Led by Rachel Abboud, who turned in a perfect 4-for-4 showing at the plate, the Duke Blue Devils (15-10, 2-3 ACC) rallied to a 6-5 victory Saturday afternoon against the Boston College Eagles (9-14, 0-2 ACC) to capture their first ACC series win in program history.
Down by three heading into the home half of the fourth inning, the Blue Devils capitalized on a BC fielding error and a two-out single from Abboud to push three runs across to tie things up. The go-ahead run came two innings later, as Raine Wilson delivered in the clutch with a two-out single to right center, scoring Reilly Metzger.
Peyton St. George (3-2) wrapped up her 3.2 innings of play by working the Blue Devils out of a jam, as BC put runners on the corners with one away before she induced a pair of groundouts to seal the series win.
For the second time in as many days, the Blue Devils walked out of the first inning with the lead, but not before the Eagles would plate one to open the contest. Back-to-back singles set up a base hit RBI that gave BC a 1-0 lead. However, Duke responded with two of their own in the bottom, as Jameson Kavel led things off with a double to left and was eventually brought home on a wild pitch. A throwing error on the Eagles later in the inning would lead to the second run coming home, giving the Blue Devils a 2-1 advantage.
After scoreless second and third innings, the Eagles sprinted into the lead with four in the fourth. A two-RBI bunt single put BC at a 3-2 advantage. A wild pitch and a single made it 5-2 in favor of the visitors before Duke rallied to tie things up and eventually take the lead later in the contest.
Abboud's perfect day at the plate also marked the first four-hit performance by a Blue Devil in program history and ties her with Kavel for the most multi-hit games this season with eight. Wilson followed Abboud with a 2-for-3 day, driving in a run as well and improving her reached base safely streak to 10-straight games. Metzger upped her program-record streak to 12-straight with a single in the fourth.
Katherine Huey got the start for the Blue Devils, her team-leading ninth on the year, and went 3.1 innings with a strikeout. St. George struck out one as well and did not allow a run while giving up six hits.
Duke will go for the sweep on Sunday, as it takes on Boston College at 1 p.m. ET. Fans can catch all the action from the Duke Softball Stadium on ACC Network Extra by going to WatchESPN.com or accessing the ESPN app.
