HOW IT HAPPENED
- A pair of solo home runs from Michelle Chatfield and Nora Abromavage gave the Hokies an early 2-0 lead after the first two frames.
- The Blue Devils loaded the bases in the bottom of the third using a walk, fielding error and a hit by pitch but weren't able to push anything across as Virginia Tech's Bree Carrico collected another strikeout to end the inning.
- The fourth and fifth frames went scoreless as both sides combined to allow just one baserunner to move into scoring position.
- The Hokies' Rachel Castine sent out the third home run of the game to push their advantage to 3-0 in the top of the sixth.
- Duke attempted to spark its offense again in the home half, loading the bases on two outs but Virginia Tech ended the threat with an infield pop out to preserve the shutout.
- Kylie Aldridge launched Virginia Tech's fourth and final home run, a two-run long ball to right field, to put the game away at 5-0.
NOTES
- Mathis moves her season ledger to 2-1 after eight appearances in the circle.
- Oakland extended her hitting streak to a team-high 15 games, her longest streak of the season.
- The loss was the first time the Blue Devils have been shut out since falling 1-0 to No. 7 Tennessee March 11, 2025.
- Duke moves to 11-6 all-time in ACC Championship play.
