ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Duke women's tennis team completed its first day of competition Friday afternoon at the Michigan Invitational. The sixth-ranked Blue Devils registered four wins through the opening day of competition.
The Blue Devils started the morning with singles action against No. 10 Ohio State and took four of the six matchups with the Buckeyes. Sophomore
Karolina Berankova started the day off defeating Dani Schoenly in straight sets 6-4, 6-1. No. 73
Georgia Drummy earned the second Duke win of the morning as she bested No. 123 Sydni Ratliff (6-2, 1-6, 6-0), while No. 48
Ellie Coleman took down the Buckeyes' Kathleen Jones 6-2 and 7-5 for her first victory of the spring.
Freshman
Emma Jackson, the 26th-ranked player in the nation, rounded out the singles wins with a 7-5, 5-7, 6-4 dub over 72nd-ranked Lucia Marzal.
Duke moved into doubles competition against Notre Dame but came up short in all three of its respective matchups to the Fighting Irish.
UP NEXT
The Blue Devils will resume action at the Michigan Invitational Saturday morning, beginning with singles competition against Notre Dame at 10 a.m. Following that, Duke will take on 16th-ranked host Michigan in doubles at 1 p.m.
