Blue Devils Win a Combined 10 Matches on Friday

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – On Friday at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Fall Regionals, the Duke women's tennis team won five singles and five doubles matches to continue the Blue Devils' solid showing in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Duke opened action in the morning with doubles play. Two Blue Devil duos went 2-0 to move on to the semifinals. The tandem of Cameron Morra and Chloe Beck collected an 8-1 win over Madison Schwarz and Isabella Sambola of Western Carolina, before defeating Elise Mills and Misa Malkin of South Carolina, 8-2, to improve to 10-1 on the season.
The Duke duo of Karolina Berankova and Ellie Coleman registered an 8-5 win over Olivia Gallagher and Hanna Giddings of UNC Greensboro. Berankova/Coleman then collected an 8-7 victory over Lucie Petruzelova and Emma Watkins of Charlotte.
The Blue Devil team of Brianna Shvets and Emma Jackson split two matches on Friday. They defeated Furman's Luca Vocke and Ellie Schulson, 8-7, and then dropped an 8-2 decision to North Carolina's Carson Tanguilig and Fiona Crawley.
In singles action, Duke's Beck, Jackson, Shvets, Coleman and Morra all won their round of 32 singles main draw matches to move on to the next round. After winning two matches on Thursday, Berankova fell, 6-2, 6-3, to Anna Brylin of Wake Forest. Freshman Katie Codd also dropped a 6-4, 6-3, decision to Jess Dawson of Furman.
