CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Representing the Duke women's tennis team at the NCAA Individual Championships this week, junior
Chloe Beck secured her spot in the round of 32 after scoring a three-set victory over California's No. 71 Jessica Alsola in her opening match of the singles draw.
Beck faced some early adversity in the matchup after dropping a tight first set, 6-4, but the ninth-ranked junior didn't let that deter her. Beck bounced back in set two, jumping out to a 4-1 advantage en route to registering a 6-4 decision to even the contest at one set apiece. With the momentum now in her favor, Beck grabbed another early advantage in the decisive third set before finishing off her adversary by another 6-4 score to collect the match victory.
The Watkinsville, Ga., native picked up her 12th win over a ranked opponent this season and improved to 34-10 overall and 22-4 in dual match singles play.
Beck will take on No. 36 Michaela Bayerlova from Washington State on Tuesday at 1 p.m. ET. Bayerlova defeated Miami's Eden Richardson 6-2, 6-0 in Monday's first round action.
