DURHAM, N.C. – Duke swimming and diving completed the first day of competition at the Taishoff Aquatics Center Friday evening.
During the pace of competition,
Kaelyn Gridley dominated once again, setting pool records in the 100 and 200 Breaststroke, as well as two separate school records.
Ali Pfaff joined Gridley in a multitude of success, setting a new school and pool record in the 100 Backstroke, while
Tatum Wall set a pool record in the 50 Freestyle.
NOTABLES
- To lead off the evening, Duke's 200 Medley Relay team consisting of Ali Pfaff, Kaelyn Gridley, KyAnh Truong, and Tatum Wall touched in first with a time of 1:35.41.
- In the women's 1,000 Freestyle, Audrey Portello collected a first-place finish, touching with a time of 9:56.52.
- Duke swept the top two podium spots on the men's side of the 1,000 Freestyle as Owen Markowitz (9:27.52) and Mark Gregory (9:50.49) touched in sequence.
- Blake Johnson tallied a second-place finish in the 200 Freestyle, touching with a time of 1:38.08.
- The Blue Devils took the top two spots in the 100 Backstroke on Friday, as Ali Pfaff and Molly Donlan touched in sequence. Pfaff clocked a time of 51.36, while Donlan touched with a time of 53.88. Pfaff's time broke a school record for the 100 Backstroke event.
- Kaelyn Gridley once again stood out in the 100 Breaststroke, clocking a time of 58.60 for a first-place finish.
- On the men's side, Duke swept the podium in the 100 Breaststroke, as Kalen Anbar touched in first (54.87), Jack Smith touched in second (54.99) and Andrew Li touched in third (55.61).
- In the 200 Butterfly, the trio of Martina Peroni, Kyra Sommerstad, and Amaya Hanley touched in sequence. Peroni clocked a time of 1:57.05, Sommerstad with a time of 2:00.13, and Hanley with a time of 2:02.91.
- Duke continued strong in the pool during the 50 Freestyle, as Tatum Wall touched in first with a time of 21.90, while KyAnh Truong placed third with a time of 22.35.
- Cameron Lai-Harris collected a fourth-place finish in the 50 Freestyle on the men's side, touching with a time of 20.23.
- Tatum Wall collected a second-place finish in the 100 Freestyle, touching with a time of 49.03.
- Ali Pfaff collected a second-place finish in the 200 Backstroke Friday, touching with a time of 1:53.86.
- In the men's 200 Backstroke, Micheal Jiang collected a third-place finish, touching with a time of 1:49.95, while Jack Christian touched in fourth with a time of 1:51.14.
- Kaelyn Gridley broke another school record on Friday evening, touching first in the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 2:06.10.
- On the men's side of the 200 Breaststroke, Duke's Jack Smith touched with a third-place finish, clocking a time of 2:00.78.
- Yugo Tsukikawa collected a fourth-place finish in the 500 Freestyle, touching with a time of 4:32.78.
- In the women's 100 Butterfly, Molly Donlan and Kyra Sommerstad touched in second and third place, as Donlan collected a time of 53.28, while Sommerstad touched with a time of 55.19.
- In the women's three-meter dive, Margo O'Meara collected a score of 369.08, securing first place in the event. She was joined on the podium by Keira Lu who tallied a score of 329.18 and finished second.
- In the men's one-meter dive, Yannis Schattman finished second in the event, posting a score of 328.73.
