DURHAM, N.C. – Duke Athletics and the Office of Climate and Sustainability announced former Blue Devil women's soccer standout Imani Dorsey will rejoin the university to serve as the climate and sustainability coordinator.
In this role, she will provide critical support in designing and implementing climate and sustainability strategies within Duke Athletics. She will serve as a liaison between Duke Athletics, the Duke University Office of Climate and Sustainability, as well as all relevant constituents. Her work will align athletics with the University Climate Commitment as well as identify steps, goals and action items.
Dorsey was a four-year letterwinner (2014-15-16-17) with the Blue Devil women's soccer team. She earned ACC Offensive Player of the Year accolades in 2017 as well as the United Soccer Coaches National Scholar Athlete of the Year award. As a senior, she scored the winning goal against Texas in the NCAA Round of 16 and put together a goal and an assist as Duke defeated Baylor to advance to the College Cup for the fourth time in school history. After her final season, she was named a United Soccer Coaches First Team All-America.
A respected champion on and off the field, Dorsey recently concluded an eight-season NWSL career. She was selected by Sky Blue FC with the fifth overall pick in the 2018 NWSL College Draft and went on to be named the 2018 NWSL Rookie of the Year, a first for a Blue Devil.
Dorsey, a 2023 NWSL champion, made advocacy the cornerstone of her professional legacy. Her deep commitment to player wellness and social equity is evidenced by her role as a Founding Board Member of the Black Women's Player Collective (BWPC) and her instrumental work on the NWSLPA Collective Bargaining Committee to negotiate the league's first CBA. Widely recognized for her social impact, she is the recipient of the 2021 U.S. Soccer One Nation Social Impact Award and the 2022 Athlete Ally Action Award, demonstrating her career-long focus on uplifting marginalized communities and advocating for systemic change.
A native of Elkridge, Md., Dorsey graduated from Duke in the spring of 2018 with a degree in environmental science and policy along with a marine science and conservation concentration and an energy and environment certificate.
