CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 15 Duke women's lacrosse team (14-5) will make its first appearance in the NCAA Championship quarterfinals since 2021 and the 17th in program history after a commanding 17-9 victory over fifth-seeded Virginia (12-7) Sunday afternoon inside Klöckner Stadium in Charlottesville, Va.

Eva Pronti continued her elite distribution, dishing out five assists to break Duke's single-season assist record with 48. She now sits tied for fifth in NCAA Championship history for most assists in a single tournament with 12.
How It Happened
- Sophomore Caitlin Barrett opened the scoring, dodging defenders and burying the ball into the back of the cage, giving Duke the early 1-0 lead less than a minute in.
- Virginia evened the score with a goal just over a minute later, 1-1.
- Duke responded with a two-goal run, as senior Carly Bernstein earned her first mark and Goodwin scored her free-position shot, pushing Duke out front, 3-1.
- The Cavaliers made it 3-2, with Virginia scoring a goal from just outside the eight-meter mark. However, Hem answered off a Pronti helper to push Duke's lead back to two, 4-2, with 2:56 left in the first period.
- UVA scored a goal ten seconds later, bringing it back to a one-score game.
- Duke ended the first quarter with two goals, one from Hem and another from Goodwin, taking the 6-3 lead. The two goals kick-started a four-goal run that stretched into the second quarter.
- In the second period, Pronti found Hem, who found the back of the cage at the 10:16 mark. Pronti followed with a behind-the-back goal, rounding out Duke's scoring run, 8-3, with just over nine minutes left to play in the first half.
- Virginia went on a two-goal run after Duke's defense held the Cavaliers scoreless for 13:41. The scoreless stretch went from the 2:46 first quarter mark to the 4:05 mark in the second period.
- The Blue Devils went into the locker room with the 8-5 led.
- In the first half, redshirt junior Kennedy Everson recorded four saves. Defensively, Duke forced two turnovers – one from Hem, one from junior Sydney Smith – and picked up six ground balls, with Reilly Traynor leading the effort off the ground with two.
- Hem went on solo three-score run for Duke over a span of 3:09 early in the third period. She tallied a goal off a Pronti assist and then slotted in her free-position shot before rounding out her natural hat trick on another Pronti helper to establish an 11-5 Blue Devil lead.
- UVA found the back of the cage at the 9:56 mark, but Goodwin scored off a senior Mattie Shearer assist less than a minute later to maintain the six-goal lead, 12-6.
- The Cavaliers responded with a two-score run in the span of a minute, making it a 12-8 Duke contest.
- With less than a minute remaining in the third quarter, Shearer fed Goodwin, who scored her fourth goal of the game to put Duke up, 13-8, heading into the final frame.
- To open the fourth quarter, the Blue Devils went on a three-goal run, stretching from 9:09 to 6:17, putting the game out of reach at 16-8. Goodwin found the back of the cage from a Bernstein dime and redshirt freshman Lena Doreen dodged defenders to score her first goal of the game. Goodwin rounded out the fourth quarter scoring run, slotting in her sixth goal of the day.
- UVA snapped Duke's scoring stretch with 4:24 remaining, cutting the Blue Devils' lead to 16-9.
- Hem scored with 20 seconds left on the clock from a Goodwin helper, rounding out Duke's 17-9 triumph.
