DURHAM, N.C. – Duke baseball (37-19) fell in the ACC Tournament Quarterfinals on Friday to the two-seed Florida State (38-13), 14-7, at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. The Blue Devils now await their NCAA Tournament designation, which will be announced on Monday afternoon on ESPN2.
Florida State opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning, putting up a pair of runs before starter
Owen Proksch was able to get out of the jam, 2-0. Duke responded in the top of the second inning, as designated hitter
Noah Murray doubled to center field to score a pair of Blue Devils, 2-2.
The Seminoles went on to score nine unanswered runs in the second and third innings to extend their lead to 11-2, before Murray crushed a two-run home run to left field, 11-4. The Seminoles went on to add a run in the bottom of the fourth inning, before
Jake Berger singled through the right side to score
Ben Rounds from third, 12-3.
Sam Harris scored on a passed ball to cut the deficit to eight.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Florida State opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning, 2-0.
- Duke responded in the top of the second inning, as Noah Murray doubled to center field to score a pair, 2-2.
- The Seminoles responded in the bottom of the second inning, 3-2.
- Florida State added to the lead in the bottom of the third inning, 11-2.
- The Blue Devils responded in the top of the fourth inning, as Murray hit a two-run home run to left field, 11-4.
- The Seminoles added a run in the bottom of the fourth inning, 12-4.
- In the top of the sixth inning, Jake Berger singled through the right side to score Ben Rounds from third. Sam Harris scored on a passed ball, 12-6.
- FSU extended its lead in the bottom of the sixth inning, 13-6.
- Florida State tacked on a run in the bottom of the seventh inning, 14-6.
NOTES
- Sophomore Noah Murray made his first tournament appearance on Friday and finished the day 2-for-2 with a new career-high four RBI. Murray also crushed a two-run home run to left field, his third of the season.
- Junior Tyler Albright collected a two-hit day against the Seminoles, finishing 2-for-4 with a run scored. It was Albright's 21st multi-hit contest of the season.
