ASUNCIÓN, Paraguay – Duke senior
Alaina McVeigh scored four goals as the U.S. U21 Women's Field Hockey National Team capped pool play at the Junior Pan American Games with an 11-0 victory over Guyana.
The United States finished at the top of Pool B with nine points from wins versus Mexico, Chile and Guyana. McVeigh finished opening round action with nine goals as all three Blue Devils –
Madison Beach,
Macy Szukics and McVeigh earned starts in each of the three outings.
In the final game of group B action, McVeigh scored twice in the first half and tacked on two more in the fourth quarter with the final coming off a penalty corner.
McVeigh, following a two-goal performance in the opening win, notched a hat trick versus Chile and had four to round out group action. The U.S. advances to the semifinals and will play the winner between Canada and Uruguay Aug. 17 at 6:45 p.m. (ET).
The semifinal winner advances to the gold medal game, while the loser will play in the bronze medal match. The medal round contests are set for Aug. 19 at 5:30 and 7:45 p.m.
The trio will return to campus Aug. 20 and hit the ground running with the Blue Devils as they take on Wake Forest Aug. 23 in the final scrimmage of the preseason. Duke opens its 2025 season on Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium Aug. 29 against Liberty at 4 p.m.
