JEJU ISLAND, Korea – Duke junior goaltender
Patrick Jameison made a last-second save to help the U.S. U20 Men's National Team to a thrilling 7-6 victory over rival Canada in the opening game of the 2025 World Lacrosse U20 Championship.Jameison came on in the second half of the game, making four saves in his 30 minutes of action.
The United States, leading 6-3 at halftime, held a slight three-goal, 7-4, edge after three quarters. Led by Owen Duffy's three goals in the game, the U.S. offense struggled in the fourth quarter, being held scoreless and setting up the thrilling finish.
With the U.S. clinging to a one-goal lead, Duffy appeared to put the game away with an empty-net goal at the 1:10 mark. But officials determined that he stepped in the crease, waiving the goal and then levying a two-minute penalty for an altercation after the whistle.
Both teams were even for one minute, but Canada had the man advantage in the final 10 seconds. David Peterkin dodged down the left alley, but short-stick defensive midfielder Kyle Bergen closed out just enough to alter Peterkin's angle and Jameison held his ground to seal the win.
The United States returns to action Sunday at Gongcheonpo Training Center, taking on the Haudenosaunee Nationals at 11 a.m. local time (Saturday 10 p.m. U.S. Eastern time).
