GREENVILLE, S.C. – In its first road test of the season, No. 9 Duke ended in a 1-1 draw against Furman at Stone Stadium in Greenville, S.C., on Sunday, Aug. 31. Kenan Hot's first goal of the season. In net,
Eryk Dymora was stout, making six saves, just one shy of his career high.
With the draw, Duke extended its unbeaten streak against the Paladins to 10 games and moved to 12-1-1 in the all-time series against Furman.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Furman earned the game's first two corner kicks and Eryk Dymora made the first save of the evening in the seventh minute. Trevor Burns took the Blue Devils' first shot attempt, in the 14th minute, but his strike sailed wide of the net.
- The hosts enjoyed an early edge in time of possession through the first 30 minutes of the match, before opening the scoring with a header in the 37th minute.
- The scoreline remained the same after the full first 45 minutes but Kenan Hot quickly equalized the score, 1-1, slotting home a deflected ball in the box in the 51st minute.
- Duke increased the offensive pressure as the second half neared its halfway point, with several shots being blocked by Furman defenders or saved by the goalkeeper.
- Dymora made his first save of the second half in the 77th minute, stopping an attempted bicycle kick from the Furman attacker.
- The Paladins found multiple strong attacking moments in the final moments of the match, but Dymora was up to the task, making key saves and helping the Blue Devils secure a 1-1 draw.
NOTES
- With the draw, Duke moved to 12-1-1 in the all-time series against Furman.
- The Blue Devils extended their unbeaten streak over the Paladins to 10. Duke's lone defeat in the series came from a Furman win during the 1991 season.
- Kenan Hot scored Duke's goal, tallying his first of the season. The senior midfielder now has two goals in his career and six total points.
- Eryk Dymora ended the night with six saves, one shy of his career high. The redshirt senior now has 10 saves and a .917 save percentage through three games.
- Thomas Vold made the start on Sunday evening, the first appearance and first start of his Duke career. The Northeastern transfer had missed the previous two matches to start the season.
- Freshman Ian Hecker also made his Duke debut, playing 17 minutes.
UP NEXT
- No. 9 Duke remains on the road for its next match, traveling to Georgetown on Friday, Sept. 5.
- The Blue Devils and Hoyas meet for the first time since 2018, with the series level at 2-2-0.
