DURHAM, N.C. – The Blue Devil volleyball team returns to Cameron Indoor Stadium to host Utah Valley University, Friday at 6 p.m., before traveling to Raleigh, N.C., for a neutral site matchup against Cleveland State inside Reynolds Coliseum. The match Friday will be streamed on ACC Network Extra.Â
ÂLast Time OutÂ
In the inaugural Showdown at the Net tournament, Duke volleyball forced a decisive fifth set, which was tied five times before Mississippi State pulled away late for a 15-10 win to clinch a 3-2 victory (25-16, 20-25, 25-17, 17-25, 15-10) Sept. 10 inside Newell-Grissom Building.Â
Sophomore outside hitter Taylor Williams led Duke's offense with 15 kills while freshman middle blocker Zoë Gillen-Malveaux followed with 10. Redshirt sophomore setter Nikki Quinn and redshirt junior setter Millie Muir dished out 13 assists apiece. Â
ÂBefore the match, the Bulldogs ranked second in the NCAA with a .398 hitting percentage, but the Blue Devils stifled their attack, holding MSU to a .158 attack percentage Wednesday evening. On defense, sophomore libero Mailinh Godschall led the match with 28 digs and Gillen-Malveaux garnered five total blocks.

ÂDuke owns the 1-0 advantage in the all-time series against UVU. In the previous matchup between the Blue Devils and Wolverines, Duke earned a 3-2 triumph during the 2017 season.Â

ÂUVU owns a 3-4 overall ledger and a 0-2 record when playing away. The Wolverines have totaled 329 kills, led by Avery Page with 91, and Sami Lackett follows with 89. The offense runs through Evalyn Chism, who has dished out 219 assists.
ÂDefensively, Bella Wooden ranks first in NCAA Division I with 50 total blocks and helps the Wolverines to a fourth-place national ranking in blocks per set, averaging 3.30. Lani Matavao leads the squad with 92 digs.
ÂScouting the VikingsÂ
ÂCleveland State boasts an overall record of 0-6, including a 0-1 ledger in road matches. Laken Voss ranks No. 12 across NCAA Division I volleyball, posting an 11.88 average for attacks per set. Voss has tallied 37 terminations on the season, while Bryan VanVleet leads her squad with 47 kills. Vayda Delventhal owns a team-best 91 digs, while Julia Jozefov boasts 13 blocks to lead the Vikings.Â

ÂThe Blue Devils travel to Boone, N.C., for back-to-back matches at the Holmes Convocation Center, facing App State Sept. 19 at 6 p.m., and Davidson Sept. 20 at 4 p.m.
