BERKELEY, Calif. – Another late rally secured the Duke men's soccer team a road point in its ACC opener, as the Blue Devils (2-0-3, 0-0-1 ACC) played to a 1-1 draw at California on Sunday, Sept. 14.
Alessandro Arlotti scored the late goal for Duke, as the Blue Devils once again rallied late to earn a hard-fought tie in a road environment.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- California forced an early save by Duke goalkeeper Eryk Dymora, with the Blue Devils' netminder kicking away a shot attempt in the 12th minute.
- The Golden Bears opened the scoring with a goal in the 22nd minute after Noe Morales tapped in a loose ball in front of the net.
- Duke continued to apply pressure towards the opposing net and earned several scoring chances in the latter stage of the half, but still trailed, 1-0, after 45 minutes.
- The Blue Devils earned multiple corners in the first moments of the second half but continued to be stymied by the California defense. Alessandro Arlotti nearly found the back of the net with a header in the 69th minute but his attempt ended in the hands of the Golden Bears' goalkeeper.
- Duke equalized in the 84th minute, with Arlotti flicking a header into the top corner off a free kick. Kenan Hot and Drew Kerr earned the assists on the goal. Arlotti nearly netted a game-winning goal in the final seconds, but his attempt rolled just outside the goal post.
NOTES
- Duke has now scored a game-tying goal after the 80-minute mark in back-to-back games, after the Blue Devils scored twice in less than a minute at Georgetown on Sept. 5.
- Alessandro Arlotti scored the first goal of his Duke career and has logged at least one point in three straight matches.
- Arlotti has posted at least one point in all but one of Duke's matches so far this season.Â
- Kenan Hot and Drew Kerr were credited with the assists on Duke's goal.
- Hot and Kerr both now has two assists this season, with Kerr tallying his first assist since the season opener against San Diego. Hot has either scored or assisted in each of the last four matches.
- Eryk Dymora made six saves, matching his season high. His career high is seven, which he accomplished three times while at Monmouth.
- Julius Suber made his 2025 debut after missing the first portion of the season due to injury.
