FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – Duke attackman
Kyle Colsey scored five goals and dished an assist and the Blue Devils' defense forced 27 turnovers en route to a commanding 21-5 victory over Providence in non-conference men's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon on Long Island.

Max Sloat finished his afternoon with two goals and two assists. Duke held Providence to 24 shots and was excellent on the ride as the Friars went 14-of-23 in the clearing game.
Henry Bard headlined the stat sheet for the defense with three caused turnovers, while
Patrick Jameison had two takeaways to go with his four saves. He allowed just two goals in 42 minutes of action.
How it Happened
- Duke opened the scoring on a tally from Sloat 90 seconds into the contest. Providence tied the game three minutes later and held the Blue Devils off for a few minutes before before Duke went on a 3-0 run to take a 4-1 advantage after the opening quarter. Four different players scored for Duke in the opening 15 minutes with Jack Pappendick capping the scoring with two seconds left.
- The Blue Devils continued to fire on all cylinders in the second period as sophomore Liam Kershis got on the board on an assist from Sloat just 40 seconds into the frame. Austin Hicks and Colsey made it a 7-1 game with markers 54 seconds apart.
- Duke's defense frustrated Providence all afternoon and kept the Friars off the board for 22:38. Trailing 7-1, Providence took advantage of a Duke penalty and scored a man-up goal with 2:27 left in the second quarter. Colsey pushed the Blue Devil lead back to six, 8-2, with an unassisted score with seven seconds left in the first half.
- The third quarter was all Blue Devils as they outscored Providence 7-1 in the period. Duke held a 15-3 advantage in shots and forced seven turnovers in the frame. Johnston and Colsey both had two goals in the quarter. The Blue Devils scored seven goals in 10:48 en route to building a 15-3 lead after 45 minutes. Providence went 17:16 without a goal in that span.
- Duke senior Colin McLane threw in two goals in the fourth quarter, while Owen Mears finished a Sam Blake pass for their first career points as Blue Devils. Providence scored twice in the quarter to bring it to a 21-5 final score.
- Cal Girard won 11-of-15 faceoffs and picked up eight ground balls. Duke won 16-of-29 restarts overall and won the ground ball battle, 42-24. Zach Jepson had a career day with two caused turnovers and two ground balls.
Notes
- Duke scored 20-plus goals for the fourth time this season, marking the most against Division I opponents in program history.
- The Blue Devils have allowed just 48 goals this season – the fewest in the first seven games since giving up just 40 in the opening seven contests in 2008.
- Duke had a season-high 14 caused turnovers against the Friars. The 14 takeaways were the most since the Blue Devils had 15 versus High Point in 2024.
- Kyle Colsey registered his career hat trick and the second straight, while Benn Johnston and Liam Kershis notched their fifth and second three-goal outings of the season.
- Owen Mears notched his first career goal in the fourth quarter. Sam Blake provided the assist for his first career point in a Duke uniform.
- Jackson Spells recorded his first career caused turnover, while Zach Jepson had a career-high two ground balls and two caused turnovers.
