SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Duke softball completed the conference series sweep over Cal with a 7-2 victory Sunday afternoon at Shea Stadium.
The Blue Devils (15-9, 3-0 ACC) outscored the Golden Bears (8-17, 0-3 ACC), 22-3, during the three-game set to earn the first series victory as conference foes.

Adelyn Matthews and senior
KK Mathis sparked the Blue Devil offense in the middle frames. The duo each finished 2-for-3 at the plate with one RBI and two runs scored. Senior
D'Auna Jennings drove in a game-high four runs with her two hits on the day.
Following a two-run first inning, junior
Larissa Jacquez settled back in inside the circle, limiting California to just two additional hits throughout the contest while striking out three. The Eagle Pass, Texas, native tossed her second complete game of the season and improved her record to 2-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Cal's Sophia Everett opened the scoring early, launching a solo home run to center field in the bottom of the first. A pair of walks followed by an RBI-single from Carly Raven gave the Golden Bears a 2-0 advantage.
- Matthews put the Blue Devils on the board with a solo home run in the top of the third, cutting the deficit to 2-1.
- Mathis opened the fifth with a solo blast to center field to tie the game up at 2-2. The freshman duo of Gabriella Shadek and Matthews followed with a base hit and double, respectively, before coming home on Jennings' infield slap to put Duke in front, 4-2.
- The Blue Devils' offense surged again in the final frame, adding three runs off four hits, highlighted by another two-RBI single from Jennings, to pull away for the final 7-2 victory.
NOTES
- Jennings matched her career high with four RBI during the contest.
- Matthews tallied her first career home run in the top of the third.
- Mathis recorded her second long ball of the weekend and has now homered in three of her last four games.
- The Blue Devils lead the all-time series against Cal, 3-1.
