RALEIGH, N.C. – Duke suffered an 18-5 setback in seven innings at NC State's Doak Field on April 11. The Blue Devils (21-16, 7-10 ACC) scored the game's first run in the opening frame, but the Wolfpack (24-11, 8-6 ACC) answered immediately with six runs in the bottom of the frame to take control of the contest.
Adin Zorn finished with a team-high two runs batted in while five Blue Devils collected a hit and five scored a run.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- RJ Hamilton gave the Blue Devils a 1-0 lead in the top of the first with a one-out home run to center.Â
- The Wolfpack exploded in the bottom of the frame with six runs for a 6-1 lead. A bases-loaded walk, two-run double, RBI groundout and Brayden Fraasman home run pushed six across for the hosts.Â
- Duke narrowed the gap to 6-4 in the top of the second as Michael DiMartini brought home Collin Anderson with an RBI double to right center, Adin Zorn plated DiMartini with a fielder's choice and Jake Lambdin delivered Zorn with a single.Â
- NC State answered again as two unearned runs came home in the bottom of the second for an 8-4 contest.Â
- In the bottom of the third, a Drew Lanphere home run made it 9-4 NC State before an RBI double and run-scoring single pushed the Wolfpack lead to 11-4 after three frames.Â
- After a scoreless fourth inning, a run-scoring single and double expanded the NC State cushion to 13-4.Â
- NC State pushed five more across in the bottom of the sixth to lead 18-4 heading to the seventh.Â
- Duke tallied the game's final run in the top of the seventh as Zorn doubled to right center to plate Coltin Quagliano, who had drawn a two-out walk.Â
