CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – No. 18 Duke came up short in game two of the weekend series at North Carolina, falling to the Tar Heels, 6-5, Saturday afternoon at Anderson Stadium.

KK Mathis also recorded multi-hit performances, finishing 2-for-4 and 2-for-3, respectively. The duo combined to drive in all five Duke runs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a scoreless opening frame, Mathis put the Blue Devils on the board with her home run to left field in the top of the second.
- Jones launched a three-run shot in the top of the third to extend the Blue Devils' edge to 4-0. The long ball also brought in Vega and senior Aleyah Terrell, pinch running for redshirt junior Jessica Oakland.
- The Tar Heels responded in the home half with a three-run blast of their own to pull within one, 4-3.
- North Carolina posted another three-run frame in the bottom of the fourth to take a 6-4 lead.
- Vega added one back for the Blue Devils in the top of the seventh, delivering a double to left center field, moving up on Oakland's infield single and coming home on a fielder's choice from Jones. Mathis drew a two-out walk to keep the rally alive but ultimately came up short as the Tar Heels put the final out away on a flyout to right field.
NOTES
- Mathis and Jones tallied their second home runs of the weekend and homered in back-to-back games for the second and fourth time this year, respectively.
- Jones recorded her 16th multi-RBI outing of the year.
- Vega and Jennings extended their hitting streaks to a team-high 14 games.
- The Blue Devils outhit the Tar Heels, 10-4, marking their 21st game with double-digit hits this season.
- The Blue Devils dropped their first game to the Tar Heels since March 9, 2019, snapping a 14-game win streak.
- The Tar Heels handed the Blue Devils their first road loss of the season. Duke is now 11-1 in true road games this year.
